Improve an Occlusal Cant Using Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs)

The cant of the occlusal plane can significantly affect smile esthetics.  It is frequently associated with facial asymmetry.  In severe cases, orthognathic surgery is needed in order to correct. However, in mild cases, it can be improved by using temporary anchorage devices (TADs).  Shown below is a case in which we improve patient’s smile by correcting the occlusal cant using temporary anchorage device.

Molar Intrusion & Upright Using Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs)

When a patient has space due to missing tooth, teeth tend to tip into the space of the same arch and super-erupted from the opposite arch.  It is not ideal for the restorative dentist.  In this case, patient had space due to #30 extracted for a long time, #31 was tipped mesially and #29 was tipped distally.  #3 was super-erupted into the lower space.  We use TADs to intrude the super-erupted upper molar & upright lower molar. It establishes ideal space for implant restoration.

Using Temporary Anchorage Device (TAD) to Retract Upper Arch

Patient had class II division 1 malocclusion.  The treatment plan was to extract the upper 1st bicuspids but the patient did not want the extraction.  We used a temporary anchorage device (TAD) to retract upper teeth into ideal class I.
