Extraction versus non-extraction is always a controversial issue in the orthodontic community. However, it is unavoidable in certain cases where is significant crowdings or protrusion of upper and lower incisors because teeth extraction created spaces to help relieve crowding and improve the patient's facial profile. Here is an example of the patient who was transferred to us where we extracted 4 bicuspids resulted in significantly improved of patient's facial profile.

Improve a Gummy Smile Patient by Using Temporary Anchorage Devices
Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) are mini titanium screws that are temporarily inserted in alveolar bone for additional anchorage. It will be removed when the treatment objectives are achieved. It can be useful in challenged cases where it is almost impossible to achieve with traditional braces alone. Shown here is a patient with a severe gummy smile who is treated with braces in conjunction with TADs.
